Pine Hills Country Club first opened for play in 1972. The course was designed by Roger Tooker.
The course sits on 165 acres of Long Island’s protected Pine Barrens. It's long and challenging but plays fair. Some fairways are narrow and some are wide. The undulating greens are medium in size and speed. Water hazards and sand bunkers come into play frequently on this rolling course.
Par for the course is 73. From the back tees, the course plays to 7,280 yards. From the forward tees, the course measures 5,180 yards. The longest hole on the course is # 8, a par-5 that plays to 540 yards. The shortest hole on the course is # 3, a par-3 that plays to 185 yards from the back tees.
Watch out for # 4, a 405-yard par-4 challenge and the #1 handicap hole on the course. The easiest hole at Pine Hills is # 13, a 320 yard par-4.

This is a very novice friendly. The course was in excellent condition and moderately challenging. The greens were somewhat tricky. I am an 11 handicap and shot 81 with one triple bogey due to not knowing the exact layout of one particular hole. I would definitely go back when I am visiting New York.
